City, Federal Agencies Partner With Business To Rebuild 40 Homes

(, November 28, 2011)

MILWAUKEE -- As the economy continues to sputter, a small business-government partnership is creating jobs - and homes- in the heart of Milwaukee.

The Housing and Urban Development agency, City of Milwaukee and local businesses are pitching in to build 40 new homes on 11th Street.

One new home is being built near North Division High School. Construction worker Jennifer McGinty is literally rebuilding homes in the neighborhood searching for work.

"Unemployment and underemployment - and the inability for people in this community and other communities across this great city is the number one problem," said Wyman Winston of the Wisconsin Housing and economic Development Authority.

McGinty was turned on to the 11th Street project by the Northcott Neighborhood House, a non-profit job training center.
